Tastes-Like-Chocolate-Ice-Cream Pie

5 Feb

A few months ago my sister gave me a great idea for a blog post. “Chocolate Pie 3 Ways.” She thought it would be cool to make the same basic chocolate pie, with different variations: graham cracker crust and a marshmallow topping for a Smores tasting pie, some type of peanut butter added for a Reese’s pie, etc. I loved the idea….but this weekend I wasn’t feeling industrious enough to make 3 different kinds of pie. So don’t worry Jessica, I haven’t forgotten your great idea. I just took the easy route this time…..keep your eyes out for that post in the future.

But I DID want to make some kind of chocolate pie. Just one kind. I searched allrecipes.com and thanks to someone named Bonnie Scott I found a no bake, frozen chocolate pie. Sounded like just the right amount of effort I was willing to put into it this weekend. 😉 Click here to see/print the full recipe.

Here’s what you need:

Cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, cocoa, milk, cool whip, and a pie shell. The recipe just called for a regular pie shell, but I decided to try it with an Oreo one instead. 🙂 It was good, but very rich.

Start by beating together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla.

Add the cocoa and milk. Looks like chocolate pudding at this point, but smells even better because of the cream cheese. 🙂

Then just fold in the cool whip and freeze overnight. You can also add chocolate chips to make it prettier. For some reason I was thinking I should add the chocolate chips after it froze. Then I realized that didn’t make any sense because they wouldn’t set into the filling. They would just kind of fall off onto the plate since the pie was frozen. Don’t know what I was thinking?!?

Since mie didn’t have any chocolate chips, I added a little chocolate syrup once it was cut to make it look nicer. I had to let this sit out for just a couple of minutes to be able to slice it. But you don’t want to let it thaw out completely! The filling starts to melt pretty quickly. Let it sit just long enough to be able to cut it with a knife, and serve right away. 🙂 Tastes like chocolate ice cream in a pie. 🙂

Random Thought of the Day: I couldn’t care less who wins the Super Bowl tonight. But if you’re planning on watching it, have fun. 😉

Up Next: Nothing for a couple of weeks. I’m lucky enough to have 2 baby showers back to back in the next 2 weekends! They are both out of town, so I won’t  be around to make something new and post it. But I’ll come up with something good for 3 weeks from now. 🙂
