Ornament Cake Pop

24 Dec

Image

One last little Christmas post. ๐Ÿ™‚ This idea actually came from my mom, who is very creative! She told me I should make a cake pop that looks like an ornament. She even suggested what kind of sprinkles I should use, to make it look extra sparkly and ornament-like. ๐Ÿ™‚ I think they would have turned out very nicely, had I not realized that I was out of some of my cake pop supplies. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Including the sticks. A very important part of pops. haha But I was unwilling to go out shopping on Christmas Eve to buy more lollipop sticks, so I tried to make do with what I had in my pantry. So this is actually more like a cake truffle than a cake pop. But I do think my mom was right about these kind of sprinkles. Looks sparkly enough to hang on a Christmas tree!

Merry Christmas, everyone! Enjoy your friends and family. ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas Wreath

18 Dec

This weekend I was asked to make a cake for a co-worker whose birthday is on Christmas. I’m glad I was asked, because I had some new cake stencils I’d been wanting to try. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I started with a clean canvas….just a simple round cake iced in white.

Then I picked out the stencil I wanted to use, and dug out my red and green sprinkles. The stencil actually ended up being just a bit harder to use than I thought. The sprinkles were so small that some of them kept slipping underneath the outlines of the stencil, and I was afraid that the design would look very smudged.

As carefully as I could, I filled in the four sections of the wreath with green sprinkles. Then I filled in the bow area with red.

Lastly, I added a few green sprinkles around the bottom for a border. Mostly because I didn’t even have enough icing left to make a red buttercream border like I’d planned. Overall, not to hard to use these stencils! Only a few stray sprinkles got away from me. ๐Ÿ™‚

Up Next: Hopefully I’ll have a chance to post at least one moreย Christmas treat before next Sunday!

Random Thought: In 1 week and 1 day myย little nephew should be making his entrance into the world! I’m so excited! ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas Cupcakes

11 Dec

What could you possibly make out of a square of fondant, with a circle cut out of the middle of it?

If you paint it with some gold luster dust and then add it to a larger circle of red fondant (that you’ve painted a black stripe on using food coloring)….

You can get a nice little cupcake topper with a Santa belt. ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s easy to make lots of different kinds of cupcake toppers using a few small, Christmas themed cookie cutters and luster dust. I love how shiny this stuff is. ๐Ÿ˜€

These were gingerbread cupcakes with cream cheese frosting that I made to take to a party at church. The pretty wrappers were a gift from my mother in law.

Overall, I was very happy with how they turned out! If you’ve never used fondant before but want to give it a try, start with something like this. Being able to make the designs from the cookie cutters makes it non-intimidating. Even if you are a fondant-beginner. ๐Ÿ˜€

Up next: Not sure, but I’m sure it will be something Christmas themed!

Random thought of the day: One more full week of school, then a very short week of a day and a half. Can’t believe how close Christmas is!!!

Baby Shower Favors

3 Dec

I know I said last week that I probably wouldn’t post anything at all this week. But…of course I can’t stay away from making desserts. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m visiting my sister and getting ready for her baby shower tomorrow. I volunteered to help out and was given the task of getting together favors. Perfect. Everyone loves an edible party favor. ๐Ÿ™‚ I decided to make chocolate covered pretzels. I dipped them in chocolate almond bark, and then drizzledย a little white chocolate on top (which I’d tinted blue). They came out pretty cute, if I do say so myself! I put these into favor boxes and tied them up with a few different kinds of “It’s a Boy” ribbon. I hope everyone at the shower likes them!

Random Thought of the Day: 3 weeks to Christmas! ๐Ÿ˜€

Up Next: Something for Christmas, like I promised last week ๐Ÿ˜‰
